Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal is the Head of Infectious Diseases, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Department of Medical Education at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Qatar. He leads the Infectious Diseases Division and the Communicable Disease Center, overseeing critical programs such as Qatar’s National Tuberculosis Program and the Clinical AIDS Program. As an advisor on public health policy and response, he plays a key role in shaping Qatar’s national strategies for pandemic preparedness and antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Al Khal was a leading figure in Qatar’s national response to the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to the Ministry of Public Health’s strategy on containment, treatment, and public health control measures. His efforts contributed to effective infection control, rapid deployment of healthcare resources, planning of vaccination campaigns and widespread public health initiatives to curb the spread of the virus in the community. At HMC, he has spearheaded strategic projects, establishing the Communicable Disease Center and the Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center, achieving ACGME-I accreditation and elevating clinical training standards. His previous leadership roles at HMC have included Chair of Family Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine. In academia, Dr. Al Khal is an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar and a Clinical Professor at Qatar University’s College of Medicine, where he was a founding member. His research spans internal medicine, pharmacology, infectious diseases, and medical education, contributing to advancements in these fields both regionally and internationally.
