Dr. Al-Hamaq holds a master’s degree in public health from the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at George Washington University, and a Ph.D in Public Health from the University of Westminster. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Qatar Diabetes Association, a part of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development. Dr. Al-Hamaq’s career includes election as the Regional Manager for the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He was also the President of the Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG) until 2011. Dr. Al-Hamaq is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH) and serves on the Advisory Committee of the College of Health Science at Qatar University. His memberships extend to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE). In addition, he holds the role of General Secretary for the Gulf Group for the Study of Diabetes (GGSD). Dr. Al-Hamaq actively participates in diabetes research with institutions like Weill Cornell Medical College and Hamad Medical Corporation, with many of these studies published in leading international journals.
