WISH TO HOST WEBINAR DISCUSSING FUTURE HOSPITALS REPORT
Dr Mark Temple And Sue Latchem To Speak As Part Of ‘Safer Care Accelerator’ Series
Doha, Qatar, 20 October 2015: The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), a global initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), will host a webinar discussing a report published by the UK’s Royal College of Physicians (RCP) identifying how hospital services can adapt to meet the needs of patients, now and in the future.
The webinar, entitled ‘Exploring the Future Hospital’, will take place on 20 October and forms part of the ‘Safer Care Accelerator’ series by Leading Health Systems Network (LHSN), a WISH initiative that shares best practice and inspires health systems worldwide to provide safer care for patients. The initiative is in line with QF’s vision to reinforce Qatar’s pioneering role as an emerging centre for healthcare innovation while unlocking human potential.
The WISH webinar will focus on the key challenges facing health systems and Dr Mark Temple, a Consultant Physician and Nephrologist, Heart of England Foundation Trust, Birmingham, will speak during the online session and discuss the influential report entitled ‘Future Hospital: Caring For Medical Patients’, which was published in 2013 by RCP, a UK body that represents over 30,000 physicians.
Considered highly influential, the report prompted the RCP to establish the ‘Future Hospital Programme’ to implement its recommendations. Sue Latchem, the programme lead for the RCP ‘Future Hospital Programme’, is also set to speak during the seminar, where attendees will explore the role that the report has had in influencing health care provision in the UK. Latchem will also provide details of a new and innovative programme that is supporting the implementation of its recommendations.
Egbert Schillings, WISH CEO, commented: “It is highly encouraging that WISH would host this session. In many ways, the hospital of the future is being built right here in Qatar with Sidra Medical and Research Center. Alongside Hamad Medical Corporation and Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, WISH, through QF, is part of a dynamic local health economy that is setting the pace for what acute care will look like for decades to come.”
WISH launched the LHSN Safer Care Accelerator Programme to share best practice and inspire health systems worldwide to provide safer care for patients. The year-long programme will bring together a global network of healthcare organisations to exchange insights, experiences, and data on the topic of patient safety, culminating in the publication of a global report. So far, 18 organisations spanning six continents have joined the effort, including Hamad Medical Corporation and Sidra Medical and Research Centre from Qatar.
The Safer Care Accelerator Programme is part of WISH and Imperial College London’s LHSN initiative. Established in 2009, LHSN has worked with 21 health systems in 11 countries helping them to overcome the challenges they face in providing high-value care to the populations they serve. Members of LHSN compare performance relative to their peers, learn from experts and frontline implementers during webinars, and are active members in a community committed to care improvement and innovation.
