Dr. Michela Martini

Dr. Martini is a specialist in migration health with more than 25 years of experience. She started her post-graduated career as PhD fellow, in USA where she carried out independent researches in the field of anticancer and HIV. Leaving her career as scientist, she devoted her attention to anthropological medicine including psychosocial impact of complex medical treatments, behavioural change for vulnerable population, including people living with HIV, young people and migrants in emergency and post-conflict areas.
Through a collaboration which lasted 3 years with the Italian Institute of Public Health she moved to public health which progressively has become her major interested.
She entered in the UN system in 2000 with progressive role at IOM and she has been assigned to southern Eastern Europe, Middle East and currently in Africa. In her current position she provides technical leadership to Governments, IOM country offices in North Africa and Middle East in strengthening universal health coverage and health services for migrants and host community, strengthen core capacity to respond to emergency including large epidemic such as COVID_19 and ebola.
