Dr. Fahmy Hanna, MD, is a psychiatrist with over 18 years in mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), with a focus on humanitarian and public health emergencies. He has worked in complex crisis settings, including World Health Organization (WHO) missions in Syria and Libya. Since joiningWHO Geneva in 2014, Dr Hanna has provided technical guidance to over 30 countries through in country deployments, helping to scale up mental health services and coordinating interagency efforts in places such as Ukraine, South Sudan, Turkey, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. As co-chair of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Reference Group since 2017, Dr. Hanna advances global MHPSS initiatives. He has also played a crucial role in creating and distributing key WHO resources, including the Mental Health Atlas, mhGAP series, and IASC guidance, some of which are now available in over 100 languages.
