A key responsibility of society is to ensure that everyone is able to live well, and die a good death. Palliative care does just that, yet worldwide it remains underfunded and underutilized. Access to palliative care is a human right that is recognized by the World Health Organization as an integral element to achieving universal health coverage. As such, we consider the provision of palliative care as one of the core ethical responsibilities of all health systems. Given the ageing population and the increasing prevalence of dementia worldwide, the need for palliative care services is expected to continue to rise
