SOS MEDITERRANEE is an international humanitarian maritime organization founded in 2015 in response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Central Mediterranean – one of the world’s deadliest migration routes. Each year, countless lives are lost due to dangerous sea crossings and harsh conditions. Our mission is urgent and clear: to conduct life-saving search and rescue operations at sea, providing immediate relief to those in distress and ensuring their safety, health, and protection until they reach a place of safety.
Since 2016, reflecting our commitment to humanity and solidarity, SOS MEDITERRANEE has carried out 424 rescue operations, saving the lives of 40,915 individuals from over 44 countries – more than 10,000 of whom were children. These people have fled conditions of conflict, oppression, hunger, natural disasters, and lack of livelihoods.
Our steadfast adherence to humanitarian principles and our unwavering commitment to human dignity have earned us international recognition. Among these honors are the prestigious Right Livelihood Award in 2023 and the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) Award in 2022.
