										<content:encoded><![CDATA[Epidermicin is an exciting innovation that can be used to prevent and treat infections caused by hospital ‘superbugs’ like MRSA. This first in class antimicrobial demonstrated high efficiency in infection models: research showed that a single dose of Epidermicin is as active as six doses of current standard treatment. Epidermicin has very low levels of toxicity. It has recently completed pre-clinical evaluation with no adverse effects observed. Topical use of Epidermicin to treat skin and other types of infection, including pneumonia, could reduce the need for systemic antibiotics. This would improve antibiotic stewardship and help reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a leading threat to global health. Epidermicin is manufactured using a highly cost-effective production method that meets regulatory requirements. The company is currently working on developing an AI-machine learning approach to generate novel variants of Epidermicin with activity ‘tuned’ towards different target bacteria. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[Goldilocks is working at the forefront of early intervention and prevention – it uses smart clothing and AI to coach customers on how to stay in the Goldilocks zone – safe, happy and well. Goldilocks’ first product on the market looks like a standard baby singlet. However, screen-printed on the inside, are micro-sensors which monitor the baby’s biometrics and transmit them to a smart device. The Goldilocks app uses AI to understand the baby’s feeding, sleeping, breathing, skin and core temperature patterns. Thanks to a unique algorithm, this data is analyzed to define a personalized “normal” condition for each baby. When an irregularity is detected, Goldilocks alerts the parents and provides support from a clinician (if required). Goldilocks is more than just an alerting device. It continuously and holistically monitors the baby’s wellbeing and compares it to the baby’s ‘normal’ condition. Goldilocks also provides actionable insights to help parents resolve the underlying issue(s). The magic behind Goldilocks is that it provides parents with the most relevant, bite-sized bits of information exactly when needed. If a parent can’t resolve the issue, Goldilocks will connect them with a clinician who can provide further support via telehealth. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[The MIMOSA platform is an FDA-cleared class II medical device. MIMOSA is designed for the early detection and preventative care of reperfusion injuries. Reperfusion injuries can appear in the case of peripheral vascular diseases, wounds, surgery and when the need for intensive care arises. There are no technologies that can truly assess these injuries. Current technologies are large, expensive, and not accessible to all patients. Therefore, specialized expertise is still required to physically examine patients. A delay in the diagnosis of reperfusion injuries results in wounds, amputations, and even death. The MIMOSA platform is a class II medical device. When paired with a smartphone, it relays the images to a web portal for remote viewing. MIMOSA brings technology to the patient, allowing him to take non-invasive images from which physiological insights can be extracted. These images are taken below the surface of the skin using novel biomarkers that are predictive of outcome. Thanks to machine learning, the device can function regardless of skin pigmentation and its portability makes expert care accessible across geographic borders. Over the last 6 months, MIMOSA was able to grow from 6 to 18 employees. It has also launched its early commercialization phase in the US. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[Apnea of Prematurity or AOP occurs when preterm newborns stop breathing for 20 seconds or longer. Repeated apneas decrease the oxygen level reaching vital organs leading to long-term neurodevelopmental issues. Approximately one in every ten babies is born premature, making AOP a global healthcare challenge. Caffeine is the most common treatment for AOP. Even though it was approved for use twenty-two years ago, it is only partially effective as most caffeinated babies continue to experience apneas for several days. Fortunately, clinicians and scientists discovered that ascending and descending vibrations moving within a small range and in low speed could help infants breathe. Clinical studies reported that preterm newborns lying on a uniquely vibrating mattress breathe better, have improved oxygenation, and maintain sleep cycles. This is due to the fact that vibrations boost neurons in the brain responsible for breathing and heart rate. In 2018, this technology was exclusively licensed by Prapela which develops reusable medical devices according to US and European regulatory standards. Prapela’s mission is to add a new capability to the thousands of incubators used around the world every day, replacing standard pads with Prapela’s innovation.
