Humanizing Health Through Community Engagement
Monday, September 16, 2024
The term “Community Engagement” within the World Health Organization (WHO) refers to the meaningful and impactful outcome of coordinated efforts and relational interventions. The key message throughout this panel and subsequent report is that “people change systems.” People belong to complex, multifaceted, and interconnected communities that shape their identity, and the healthcare workers’ community is integral to these connections. In this panel, three key areas central to a primary healthcare approach that addresses individuals’ comprehensive needs are discussed: promoting relational leadership, management, and governance, strengthening relationship-building capabilities within health systems, and investing in transdisciplinary research and practice development.
