Lord Darzi of Denham

Lord Darzi is a pioneering surgeon, scientist, and global health leader, recognized in TIME100 Health 2025. A former UK Health Minister, he holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery and co-directs Imperial College London’s Institute of Global Health Innovation. He is a Consultant Surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Marsden. He led the 2024 independent investigation of the NHS in England.

As Executive Chair of the Fleming Initiative, he leads efforts against antimicrobial resistance. In Qatar, he is Executive Chair of the World Innovation Summit for Health and Vice-Chair of Sidra Medicine’s Board of Governors. He chairs Flagship Pioneering’s Pre-emptive Health and Medicine Initiative and advises Hamad Hospital and PHCC on reforms in Cancer and Primary Care.

His scientific distinctions include Fellowship of the Royal Society and Academy of Medical Sciences, Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and international membership of the US National Academy of Medicine.

Knighted for services to medicine and surgery, he is a Privy Counsellor and recipient of the Order of Merit, Qatar’s Sash of Independence, Armenia’s Order of Honour and Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.
