Professor  Aisha Holloway is Chair of Nursing Studies at The University of Edinburgh, Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Programme Director for the Nursing Now Challenge. In 2023, she was appointed as the Global Nurse Adviser to the Scottish Government’s Ministerial Taskforce on Nursing & Midwifery. That same year, she also worked part-time at the World Health Organization’s (WHO) headquarters in Geneva in the Workforce Department. She currently sits on the WHO State of the Worlds Nursing Report Steering Committee. Her career has been underpinned by engagement in influencing health policy both nationally and internationally.  Aisha has worked extensively with governments, policymakers and expert stakeholders to strengthen and elevate the position of the nursing profession, and nurses in national and global health policy. Over the past decade, this has been specifically focused on personal and professional leadership development for early career nurses, midwives and students, particularly in relation to policy. She is a registered General Nurse with a clinical background in General and Acute Medicine, and the Intensive Treatment Unit. Having earned her PhD in 2000, Aisha has established a programme of funded research focusing on improving population health whilst influencing and shaping health and related policy.
